Strolling Into Motherhood
Let me introduce myself, I’m RaSheeda. I think everything is pretty typical about my life…
5am Morning Routine with a cup of coffee
6am Make my short 30 minute journey to work
7am Check in with my wife before the day starts
8am Greet my 4th graders
…and away my day goes.
I fill my afternoons with walking (my type of exercise), spending time with family or friends, reading, perhaps a happy hour and night routines. All pretty typical stuff.
The last 6 months, however, haven’t been so typical as we are expecting our first child! We feel so fortunate and beyond blessed, and it has definitely come with a lot of change. I’ve had to wrap my head around not having coffee since August, a morning routine being missed 4 days in a row because I’m exhausted in a way I never knew was possible, and happy hour looks totally different these days. Happy hour is at home on the couch and trying to stay awake during my favorite show.
Of course, my wife and I think this is nothing short of miraculous and completely baffling. And let me tell you, I am not one to have a loss for words. Nothing could have prepared me for all the emotions, doctors appointments, questions, touches, or fatigue. But I’m enjoying this amazing journey immensely!
So how did I get here, to creating this blog and having you read a bit of my story?
One evening, our son’s godmother suggested very casually during a random text that I should consider making a blog because of all the nesting I’ve got going on over here. At the time of the conversation, I was sharing pictures of my babymoon budget wardrobe finds. I was super excited to find 2 dresses, a blouse, and cute wristlet for a whopping $30. I mean come on, I was willing to spend $50, and walked away with twenty! (Babymoon series to come!)
So, I rolled her suggestion over, and over, and over again. It was clearly on repeat and I couldn’t shake the idea that maybe I should at least take a leap. I mean, I’ve strolled through many things in life with a plan.
I strolled through high school, college, grad school, transitioned into my teaching career, into marriage, and recently into home ownership. Now let’s be perfectly clear, don’t think for one second those life changing events were smooth and without a need for an alternate plan. But that’s me, I’m an overachiever, a planner, and a serious serious organizer.
That being said, I considered what I had to offer the virtual world as I stroll into motherhood, and here we are in my first post. I hope to inspire moms to relax and enjoy the journey of motherhood and family through planning experiences, organizing your home and life, and most importantly, incorporating much needed you time to stay grounded.
I hope to rendezvous and connect with other moms to learn from your wise experiences, showcase some streamlined systems to smooth out the days and nights, to make way for fulfilling and memorable moments.
So go grab a glass of wine or sparkling cider and let’s toast to all the memories, crafting and laughing we plan to embrace in our motherhood and life.
